Take A Closer Look

This tour will only deal with authors who have passed to the great library in the heavens as otherwise the walk would take double the time! History has nominated that most of the famous writers associated with this part of Dublin were male but thankfully, in contemporary society, the gender balance has correctly kicked in, as talent resides in all regardless of sex. The route, from Dublin Castle to St Patrick’s Cathedral, will weave in and out of familiar streets and some lesser-known places. This way we can cover the lives of locally born writers, from Swift to Beckett, or share the Dublin experiences of visiting luminaries such as Charles Dickens and J. P. Dunleavey. In 2010, Dublin became the fourth UNESCO City of Literature, now one of 53 UNESCO Cities of Literature worldwide. Uniquely, the city has produced four Nobel prize winners in literature (Yeats, Beckett, Shaw and Heaney) and creative writing is still flourishing, as The Dublin Book Festival amply demonstrates.
