Take A Closer Look

Benjamin Lee Guinness became Dublin’s first Lord Mayor in a reconstituted City Council. After the unfolding of this story, we will pass by the statue of William Conyngham, 4th Baron Plunket and husband to Anne Guinness. From there we will see the Guinness family home on St Stephen’s Green, Iveagh House. Then we will meet Lord Ardilaun (Arthur Guinness), the philanthropist who presented his restored St Stephen’s Green to the people of Ireland. An interesting and historic walk will then take us in to visit St Patrick’s Cathedral, restored by the munificence of Benjamin Lee Guinness. Continuing from there we will pass through St Patrick’s Park to view the magnificent housing and educational facilities built by Lord Iveagh (Edward Guinness) for the poor of Dublin. We will then swing through the evocative streets of the Liberties, an ancient district from where many of the Guinness Brewery workers once came from. Finally, we will meander through the laneways and roads around the Guinness Brewery which will look so familiar with their lofty warehouses, Vat houses, overhead walkways and all the other paraphernalia of a past and a working brewery.
