Have you ever wanted to work as a Tour Guide or in tourism? Are you a passionate historian who would love to share your enthusiasm with visitors to Dublin? Or perhaps you just want to learn more about the capital city of Ireland and have good fun along the way? If any of this sounds like you, then our course is for you!
There was never a better time with the gradual return to tourism and the preparations we must make for next year’s season. We are delighted to announce our new Guide Training Course for the Season 20209-2021! This highly acclaimed course, led by the renowned Dublin historian Pat Liddy, is designed to help you learn everything you need to conduct top-class tours of Dublin City and the surrounding areas to a professional level. It is open to working tour guides and complete beginners alike.
The course covers a mix of Irish and Dublin history, works on developing your guiding skills - on foot and by coach - and includes discussions and guest sessions with our current working tour guides and industry contacts, as well as familiarisation visits to many Dublin attractions and areas of the city.
Because of current restrictions with the Coronavirus the course will be tailored a bit differently this year. It will start with a mix of online sessions and socially-distant classroom work. These sessions will be followed by training experiences outdoors. More consistent classroom work is expected to be possible from January. Full details of online and outdoor training timetables are available on request and the course will start on 20 October. The course will finish in time next year for the commencement of the season in March/April.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued to all successful participants at the end of the course, putting you in good standing to pursue work in the sector as an independent tour-guide or as part of a guiding team.
The cost for the full course is €850 including VAT, which can be put against your income tax for revenues earned from touring.
The venue for classroom work (when considered safe to do so) will be the CHQ Building on Custom House Quay (Luas Red Line, George’s Dock Stop).
